Nokia C1 Leak Tips Launch With Android and Windows 10 Mobile Variants

Image
The rumoured Nokia C1, the smartphone that has been in leaks since late last year, has now surfaced in a new render image on the Web. While all the leaks and rumours until now pointed out the handset to run Android with the company's Z Launcher, the new render shows the smartphone to run Windows 10 OS as well - tipping the handset could be offered in two variants for the two operating systems. The leaked image render for the Nokia C1 shows the handset in White, Gold, Pink, and Grey colour variants alongside two more units. While the unit in foreground is seen running the Nokia Z Launcher for Android, the one in the background (right side) is seen running Windows 10 Mobile. The tipster who leaked the image said (via Nokiapoweruser) that the handset will arrive in both OS versions. In addition, while a leaked image from September showed the smartphone's rear camera at the centre, the latest render shows it placed on the top-left corner. Since Nokia is still silent on the ma...

Lumia 630: Living with Windows 10 Mobile and only 512MB of RAM Source: AAWP

Image
Having looked at Windows 10 Mobile build 10512 on the top spec Lumia 930 (2GB of RAM) and on the 'budget flagship' Lumia 830 (with 1GB of RAM), it's time to look at the new OS on something even lower spec - the two year old Lumia 630, with only 512MB RAM. Common sense tells us that Windows 10 Mobile should be more limited in this context - and it is in terms of big name games - but surprisingly the overall smartphone experience is very decent indeed and indistinguishable from the Lumia 830's, thanks to the lower screen resolution (WVGA). [Note: I did something similar back in the earlier days of Windows 10 Mobile's Insiders Programme, with similar results.] With the news that the Lumia 530 will be excluded from regular Over The Air updates to Windows 10 Mobile because of limited internal storage (a suicidal 4GB, as I believe I mentioned in my review), suspicions have also been cast on the mountain/majority of devices with limited RAM, i.e. 512MB. In this camp f...

A Windows app developer has discovered earlier today that the official Microsoft Dev Center app is down and looks to remain this way until 2016 when an apparent updated version will be released. Image
It has been just three months since the general availability of Windows 10, and Microsoft is now ready to roll out its first major update. Previously known by its codename as "Threshold 2" the "Windows 10 Fall Update" (or Windows 10 November 2015, or even Windows 10 1115) looks to bring some new features and improvements to the fledgling universal OS. During the development of the update, users part of Windows Insider Program had the chance to get hands-on with the new features, changes, and improvements, which now everyone will be getting shortly. Since July 29, 2015, Microsoft released six Windows 10 Insider Preview builds, all of them made through the Fast ring of updates. Only Windows 10 build 10565 and build 10586 were made available through both, the Fast and Slow ring. While all the builds brought something new to the operating system, we could say that only three builds, including 10547, 10565, and 10576 packed the most number of changes and improvem...

Windows 10 “Fall Update” could launch November 10th

Last week, I reported that Microsoft was planning to launch the Windows 10 “Fall Update” on November 2nd, but Microsoft was unable to sign off on a final build last week meaning they still don’t have anything ready. So November 2nd isn’t happening now, but according to a Microsoft Support Engineer, the 10th it is. The Support Engineer on the Microsoft Answer forums has said the Windows 10 “Fall Update” will launch on November 10th, bringing with it Cortana support in India. That’s one of many things coming in the “Fall Update”, other features include UI improvements, Edge improvements and a new Messaging app. Assuming the Support Engineer knows what he’s talking about, the 10th gives Microsoft one more week to sign off on a final build for the Fall Update, after missing their planned deadline last week, they’ll probably want to sign off on a final build very soon so they can ship to Insiders for final testing, much like how they did with the original Windows 10 RTM.
